1. Policy Statement
Hosts are asked not to offer or provide alcohol to guests at any point during a Nightstop stay.
2. Purpose of the Policy
This policy sets out Nightstop’s approach to alcohol during host placements. It aims to keep both guests and hosts safe, while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries within the hosting relationship.
3. Core Principles
We know many hosts offer great hospitality, but there are a few key reasons why we have a blanket approach on alcohol:
-
Clear and consistent expectations: Guests are told they should not arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Not offering alcohol during the stay helps avoid any mixed messages.
-
Maintaining boundaries: Nightstop placements are short-term, supportive arrangements. Avoiding alcohol helps keep the relationship professional and focused on providing a safe space, rather than a social setting.
-
Fairness and consistency: A consistent approach across all hosts helps prevent confusion and ensures all guests receive the same experience.
-
Safeguarding: We may not always be aware of a guest’s personal history with alcohol. A no-alcohol approach helps reduce any potential risks.
-
Age considerations: Some guests may be under 18, so having a clear rule avoids any uncertainty and supports our legal responsibilities.
-
Religion and culture: For some people, alcohol is prohibited or culturally sensitive. A no-alcohol approach avoids placing guests or volunteers in difficult or compromising situations and helps ensure Nightstop remains inclusive and respectful of diverse beliefs.
4. What to do if a guest appears under the influence
If a guest arrives and appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, please contact the on-call team as soon as possible for advice and support. They will guide you on the next steps.
5. Expectation of hosts
-
Alcohol isn’t to be offered or provided to guests during their stay.
-
Keeping alcohol out of the placement supports a calm, safe, and consistent environment for everyone.
-
If you have any concerns about a guest’s wellbeing, including possible intoxication, please contact the on-call team for guidance.
-
Continue to provide a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment.
